The Dr. Mash UP~LIFT

The Dr. Mash UP~LIFT is sometimes known as the weekend facelift because it can be performed quickly and the recovery period is relatively short. The procedure generally enhances key facial areas with less risk and less stress than the standard face lift surgery. Additionally, the cost of The Dr. Mash UP~LIFT makes it an attractive option, since it reduces minor sagging around the cheeks, jawline, and neck much more economically than the conventional facelift approach.

Using smaller incisions and often taking advantage of ultra sonic and laser technology, the Dr. Mash UP~LIFT achieves optimal results. The Dr. Mash UP~LIFT may be combined with other procedures, such as laser resurfacing, botox, and filler substances, either at the time of the procedure or in a staged approach.

Dr. Mash's Comprehensive Approach

Dr. Mash and her associates will gather a thorough medical history, with particular emphasis on your weight, underlying medical problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure, history of cigarette smoking, and bleeding tendencies. Skin care regimen is reviewed as well.

Following this, a complete physical examination of all of your facial features is carried out, including upper face or brow, eyelids, midface or c heeks, and neck. The doctor explains what she sees to give you a comprehensive overview of how she perceives your appearance has been affected by aging, with an eye to how each component relates to the other, and what might be done to improve each surgically. You may not wish to take advantage of every avenue of treatment that is available for rejuvenation, but at least you should know about every approach and what each can offer. Cosmetic Surgery is an art, and the application of any particular line of treatment must be tailored to the patient’s goals and desires.

With age, the effects of gravity and repetitive muscle contraction, quantitative changes occur to the soft tissues of the face, giving one a tired appearance. Skin becomes loose, fat pads descend, and muscle banding occurs in the neck. Wrinkles appear in the skin, along with other qualitative changes, signaling a mature countenance.

The Dr. Mash UP~LIFT is designed to temporarily reverse some of the quantitative changes that occur with aging, though surely not all changes. The procedure is appropriate for people who are experiencing the signs of aging but do not want to wait to undergo more intensive surgery. In general, those who opt for this relatively simple procedure are in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Usually they want to improve the sagging and/or drooping around the cheeks, jowls, and neck area.

Before Your UP~LIFT

Preparations before your UP~LIFT are determined with your safety as the top priority and to ensure a smooth procedure and a fast recovery. Therefore, it is advisable to follow all of Dr. Mash’s instructions closely. If you decide to deviate from her recommendations, you should discuss it with her beforehand. You should not smoke.

Smokers choke blood flow through small vessels which can cause problems in the recovery after the UP~LIFT Dr. Mash recommends to her patients who do smoke to discontinue smoking for at least two weeks prior to the procedure. In preparation for your procedure, Dr. Mash and her associates will ask you to discontinue any medications that could cause increased bleeding and bruising, for example, aspirin and aspirin-like medications such as ibuprofen, naproxen, vitamin E, and/or any products that contain them. You should continue most of your other prescription medications, especially any blood pressure, heart and asthma medications. If you take medications that could interfere with your healing, Dr. Mash will decide with your primary care physician how to proceed.

Lastly, although some last-minute apprehension is normal, you should look forward to this procedure. A positive outlook will help you in your recovery period.

After Your UP~LIFT

Dr. Mash’s UP~LIFT is performed safely as outpatient procedure. After your UP~LIFToperation, you will spend some time in the recovery room. Once you feel comfortable and your physical status meets discharge criteria, you will be released home with your companion. At home, you should have a caring person with you so that you can rest to recover from the procedure.

Following the procedure, Dr. Mash will use a bonnet-type elastic dressing which will lend support to your face and neck. The length of time required to wear the dressing varies from patient to patient, and depends upon Dr. Mash's recommendation for each individual. You will receive prescriptions, commonly for pain medications, antibiotics and others. Dr. Mash and staff also recommends the use of homeopathic Arnica Montana for faster recovery. This will be supplied to the patient during the patient’s pre-operative appointment. Swelling and bruising are a normal part of the UP~LIFT recovery process but you can minimize the swelling by keeping your head elevated, even at nighttime. Icing is employed to further lessen bruising and swelling. In order to support your fast recovery, you should avoid exercise, straining, heavy lifting, and alcohol in the early recovery phase.

A soft diet is usually recommended immediately after surgery. Dr. Mash and her staff will advise you, when you can take a shower. Most patients do not have a problem showering after the first 24-48 hours and feel much better after the hair is cleansed. Pain is commonly not a significant problem after the procedure. Dr. Mash uses dissolvable sutures throughout the UP~LIFT procedure. Temporarily, your face will feel tight and you may notice some numb areas. Sometimes, there are some initial asymmetries of the face due to swelling and bruising. The face may also appear to be rounded immediately after surgery. This roundness or fullness along with any asymmetry will subside within a few weeks following the procedure. All patients are given Dr. Mash’s personal cell phone number at the time of their discharge so they can feel comfortable that their questions and concerns may be addressed 24 hours a day 7 days a week
