How can I determine if I am a good candidate for Tumescent Liposuction?

Make an appointment for a complimentary consultation, at which time we will learn more about you to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. If you are overweight, it is possible that you will be advised continue a weight-loss program before receiving the liposuction; if you smoke you will be required to stop doing so for a period of time before and after the procedure. The Doctor will determine at this time if you have any other conditions which might interfere with a successful outcome.

When you are approved to receive the procedure, you will sign release forms and discuss pre-operation instructions. Dr. Mash and PA Maria Capaldo will answer any questions you may have regarding the procedure and its outcome at this time, and our Reception staff will schedule the surgery date.

What can I expect the day of my surgery?

Tumescent Liposuction involves a light sedation of the patient, marking the area to be treated, and injecting it with an anesthesia fluid prior to suctioning. This fluid constricts the surrounding blood vessels, making the procedure less invasive, and provides anesthesia during and after surgery.

When the liposuction begins, a thin, hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted through tiny incisions into the area to be treated. It is attached to a machine which creates a strong vacuum, and the cannula is strategically manipulated to sculpt the body and suction off unwanted fat.

No pain is felt during the procedure, and multiple areas may be treated simultaneously. Tumescent liposuction can take from one to three hours depending upon number of areas treated.

What areas are appropriate for Tumescent Liposuction reduction?

We can liposuction just about any area which you feel cannot be contoured by normal weight-loss dieting. We have been successful doing Tumescent Liposuction on thighs, necks, backs, midriffs, abdomens, arms, breasts, and backs. Speak to the doctor if you have a special problem you would like her to address.

TUMESCENT LIPOSUCTION POST OPERATIVE PROCEDURES AND HEALING TIME

What should I expect after my Liposuction procedure is completed?

After your Tumescent Liposuction is completed, absorbent dressings are placed on the incisions which will drain the anesthetic fluid originally injected. You are helped into a tight fitting garment , and your dressings are changed as needed until drainage is complete which normally lasts through one or two dressing changes. The support garment should be worn for four to six weeks to reduce the possibility of swelling, unevenness or waviness.

You may feel a little bruised and sore, and some swelling is expected which commonly peaks at three to four days and disappears within four to six weeks.

This procedure is done as an outpatient procedure, so you will be discharged after resting and feeling comfortable enough to go home. You must bring a driver with you as you are not permitted to drive at this time. A shower is permitted the day following the procedure.

What is the approximate healing time following Tumescent Liposuction?

Depending on the areas treated, you may return to work the next day, although some patients wait two to three days to rest before returning to work. It is important to begin normal activity as soon as possible.

Results will be visible almost immediately after surgery, but the full effect may not be evident for four to six weeks after most of the swelling has subsided. Patients are very pleased with the results; in many cases the new body contour has a positive effect on self-image and self-esteem.
